The first of our greenhouse seedlings went out into the real world today, and we’re looking forward to eating fresh and sweet snap peas in a matter of weeks. They’ve been planted in last year’s potato planters, and I build a great bamboo trellis box for them to climb on.
I love to joke about pea-ing the garden when I do the pea planting…but did you know that peeing in the garden has some serious benefits? Yes, for reals! Among other things, urine puts a huge amount of nitrogen in the soil, accelerates composing, acts as a fungicide, stops weeds…and so many other things. There’s a great article about it here, just so you don’t think I’m making this up.
But just so you don’t get all squirmy and awkward when I offer you fresh produce from our garden, be advised that I’ve never actually done this myself. But hey, if you gotta go you gotta go, and in an emergency…
…it’s always better to wet your plants than to wet your pants.
