For me, one of the most rewarding things in life is to be able to cultivate what I need. Life is busy and we’ve found thousands of ways to save time and money, but many of those ways have taken away our own ability to provide for ourselves. When we started Skywater Farm, we wanted to learn how to do that again. There is great richness in a simple life and great value in slowing down. In finding more in less. And the lighter footprint we make has a tremendous impact on the systems we’re part of and will leave behind after we’re gone.
Going back to a simple life is not a step backward.
So how do we learn to live simply, then? We plan, we unlearn. We try. Every day contains fun and difficulty in equal measure, and we benefit from our mistakes. What has come as a happy surprise is the great joy we’ve discovered in the process. And in the sharing of it. When a friend leaves with a warm jar of fresh jam, when we can bring a box of apples to a gathering, or when we can open a bottle of our own wine or beer to drink with our family, a part of that joy is shared and multiplied.
Here at The Farmstand, I want to share the journey, with all of the success and the failure. With the fruits of our labour. It’s a journey of sustainability, of simplicity and of life lived with intention. Lived artfully. Thank you for being here to share it with me.
