For me, the creative process is one that is deeply linked to a sense of place, and the ideas, subjects and materials that I use in my artwork are inspired by the place I call home.
I am inspired by the natural world around me and the changing seasons as they reveal different faces of the familiar. My days are full. My hands are full too…full of plants, full of paint, full of animals and full of life. The objects that I create are an expression of this life.
There’s a difference between making a living and making a life.
Skywater Farm is a place where the two come together in a wonderful balance, and the work of my hands helps to sustain it. It’s an important thing to be able to plant a seed, grow a plant and eat the fruit. It’s also a great thing to share my experience of life in a creative way. We all need to do this.
We need clean air to be healthy. We need space to stretch our body, mind and spirit. We need good healthy food and a connection with the earth, sun and rain that nourishes it. And we need art. Lots of art.
