I have always been a maker.
Drawing, writing, painting and creating have propelled my life, and I have been fortunate to be inspired by exceptional people since I was very young.
My husband and I moved to Vancouver Island in 2007 to be closer to the forces of nature that are most meaningful to us, and established Skywater Farm in 2014.
We live in a way that is simple, rich and rewarding. In the growing of our food and in quiet harmony with our environment, nature is my muse, and it is limitless.
Tucked in a rainforest valley between the mountains and the Salish Sea, living so close to the natural world, the beauty of its complex systems is both my daily work and my daily inspiration.
I care to live only to entice people to look at Nature’s loveliness. ~John Muir
Whether I am painting, printing or planting, the creative process requires close observation. It is in this habit of observation that I discover endless examples of our deep connection to the land as well as the many other creatures that we share it with and rely on for our very existence.
It’s a joyful, mysterious, terrifying and hopeful thing.
To me, there is nothing in this world more important than this connection, and it is the thread that runs through every single thing that I do. I make things that are expressions of it, and when you look at one of the paintings, wear something I’ve made, read one of the articles, sip one of the teas or eat our fresh produce…
I hope that you can feel it, too.
